English abstract

This paper studies the social cataloguing platforms in the web and his possible uses by the public libraries in the fields of book and reading promotion. The social aspects of tree main cases are analyzed, based on one heuristic who studies the aspect of Identity Construction, Communication and Perception. The study concludes that, for the public libraries, these kind o social platforms can be a new way for aggregation the This paper studies the social cataloguing platforms in the web and his possible uses by the public libraries in the fields of book and reading promotion. Examples of services are given in the fields of book promotion and online reading clubs.

Portuguese abstract

Este estudo analisa um caso particular de plataformas de redes sociais, as plataformas de catalogação social. Considerando que o objectivo fundamental é o de perspectivar formas de exploração destas plataformas pelas bibliotecas públicas no domínio da promoção do livro e da leitura, são analisados apenas os mecanismos de interacção e socialização em três casos, de acordo com uma heurística que define os seguintes domínios: Construção da Identidade, Comunicação e Percepção. Verifica- se que estas plataformas de catalogação social abrem uma nova porta para o ambiente web às bibliotecas públicas, quer porque permitem agregar a procura, quer porque possibilitam a prestação de serviços de diversa natureza neste novo ambiente. A título exemplificativo são sugeridas formas de exploração destas plataformas em serviços como promoção do livro e comunidade virtuais de leitores. Finalmente, sugere-se um conjunto de atitudes-chave propiciadoras do sucesso na gestão destas plataformas
