English abstract

The paper describes the history, the meaning, the structure and the text of the ISBD preliminary consolidated edition and the issues relating to its Italian translation. The online version of the Italian translation of International standard bibliographic description (ISBD), preliminary consolidated edition, was published in August 2009. The translation aims to promote the standard in Italy and is the result of nearly two years of work. The Italian Translation Working Group worked by email and periodic meetings, and met also with ICCU to check the whole translation and to discuss single difficult questions. The process of editing of the ISBD provisional consolidated edition, translation issues, differences among ISBD and Italian cataloguing uses, GMDs and SMDs, Glossary and the relationship between ISBD and REICAT are discussed. Italian translation work was also a valuable opportunity to contribute with ISBD Review Group to the setting up of the final version of the standard. The Italian Translation Working Group steadily submitted comments to the ISBD Review Group, contributing to the ongoing debate among the editors and determining some revisions in the text.

L'edizione preliminare consolidata delle ISBD è stata pubblicata nel mese di agosto 2009. La traduzione mira a promuovere lo standard in Italia ed è il risultato di quasi due anni di lavoro. Il lavoro di traduzione italiana è stato una preziosa opportunità di contribuire al lavoro dell'ISBD Review Group per la creazione della versione finale dello standard.
