English abstract

In the year 1946 the College of Agriculture and Veterinary, University of Buenos Aires was donated an important collection of 32,000 volumes which belonged to Dr. Pedro Narciso Arata (1849-1922), first Rector of the Higher Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary, is one of the most important bibliographic contributions it has received the University of Buenos Aires in its history. This part of the collection is now the Arata Library which holds about 14,000 documents including books, pamphlets, magazines, manuscripts and photographs of multiple disciplines and eras. In 2005 the Central Library of the Faculty of Agriculture (Biblioteca Central de la Facultad de Agronomía) prepares the Project of Commissioning Value with the advice of various specialists. In 2006, was made the diagnosis of the state of conservation of the collection. In this diagnosis it was reviewed the conservation status of the collection, identified the risks to which it was submitted and provided recommendations for the control of environmental conditions and subsequent processing of the collection. This paper describes the measures implemented to combat each of the different agents of deterioration

En el año 1946 la entonces Facultad de Agronomía y Veterinaria de la Universidad de Buenos Aires recibe en donación una parte importante de la colección de 32.000 volúmenes que perteneciera al Dr. Pedro Narciso Arata (1849-1922), primer Rector del Instituto Superior de Agronomía y Veterinaria; constituye uno de los aportes bibliográficos más importantes que haya recibido la Universidad de Buenos Aires en toda su historia. Esta parte de esa colección, constituye hoy la Biblioteca Arata que atesora un conjunto de aproximadamente 14.000 documentos entre ellos libros, folletos, revistas, manuscritos y fotografías sobre múltiples disciplinas y épocas. En el año 2005 la Biblioteca Central de la Facultad de Agronomía prepara el Proyecto de Puesta en Valor con el asesoramiento de distintos especialistas. En el 2006 se realiza el diagnóstico de conservación de la colección. El diagnóstico analizó el estado de la colección, identificó los riesgos a los que estaba sometida y brindó recomendaciones para el control de las condiciones ambientales y para el tratamiento posterior de la colección. En este trabajo se describen las medidas implementadas para combatir a cada uno de los diferentes agentes de deterioro
