English abstract

Towards the Digital Age: Digital Books on the History of Lithuania from 1998 to 2008 The use of the terms electronic book and digital book is discussed; the definition of the digital book is proposed. The article gives a review on the development of publishing activities and distinguishes two major stages: before and after 2002. It has been determined that the most popular portable media used for digital publishing are the compact discs of CD-ROM type. The volumes of circulations of digital publications are discussed; it has been observed that average circulations of digital books are significantly smaller than those of printed books. It can be concluded that it is to a large extent influenced by the scope of piracy. The distribution of publishers is analysed as well – large publishing houses of printed books tend to remain in the background of digital publishing, whereas a considerable portion of the market is made up of the specialised private publishing houses and institutions of education and science.

Anotacija. Straipsnyje analizuojama skaitmeninių knygų Lietuvos istorijos tematika leidyba 1998–2008 m. Nagrinėjama leidybos raida, išskiriami jos etapai. Suformuluojama skaitmeninės knygos sąvoka, aptariamos dažniausiai naudojamos laikmenos, tiražai, išskiriami svarbiausi leidėjai, tiriami piratavimo mąstai.
