English abstract
Considering the need to identify epistemological foundations to better understanding Informatin Science (IS) as a scientifical branch it seeks elements from Knowledge Organization (KO) as an intermediate activity between the production and the use of knowledge in order to analyse how the concepts of document and knowledge articulate each other on it. In this sense, the historical background (DAHLBERG, 1993, 1995) is approached as a starting point to reach the concept (HJORLAND, 1994, 2003; BARITÉ, 2001; JAENECKE, 1994) and, as a consequence, the object of KO, when it is possible to discuss the conceptual relations between Knowledge and Document (GARCÍA MARCO, 1995; HJORLAND, 1994, 2003; BARITÉ, 2001). As a result, it is possible to observe that the concept of document can be considered a basis in such a sense that IS and KO can establish dialogs in order to proceed to the construction of their epistemologial universe, since it furnishes a convergence between information and knowledge.
Portuguese abstract
Considerando a necessidade de se identificarem bases epistemológicas que ajudem a melhor compreender a Ciência da Informação (CI) como campo científico, buscam-se elementos da Organização do Conhecimento (OC) como atividade mediadora entre a produção e o uso do conhecimento para, nela, analisar como se articulam os conceitos de conhecimento e documento. Para tanto, parte-se de uma breve contextualização histórica da OC (DAHLBERG, 1993, 1995), para se chegar a seu conceito (HJORLAND, 1994, 2003; BARITÉ, 2001; JAENECKE, 1994) de modo a discutir a relação conceitual entre conhecimento (na perspectiva da OC) e documento (GARCÍA MARCO, 1995; HJORLAND, 1994, 2003; BARITÉ, 2001). Como resultado, observa-se que o conceito de documento constitui a base para que a OC e a CI possam estabelecer interlocuções e, assim, prosseguirem no processo de construção de um universo epistemológico, uma vez que perpassa os conceitos de conhecimento e de informação nelas trabalhados.
