English abstract

The objective of the study was to obtain a general view of the pre-professional practices in the Information Sciences Specialty of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) and to verify in what measure, the knowledge and skills acquired by the students during their formation, find an adequate space for their application in practice centers. The study analyzed the practice files for the period 2001-2010 and it found that these are done, mostly, in non-profit organizations that are part of the educative, cultural, and social studies fields, with printed collections and in public service tasks, and information organization. There are comments on the need to take measures to increase the visibility of the career in the working market and about the role of the practices in this purpose.

Spanish abstract

El estudio tuvo como objetivo obtener un panorama de las prácticas preprofesionales en la Especialidad de Ciencias de la Información de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) y verificar en qué medida los conocimientos y habilidades adquiridos por los alumnos durante su formación encuentran un espacio propicio para su aplicación en los centros de práctica. Se analizaron los expedientes de prácticas del período 2001-2010 y se encontró que éstas se realizan, mayoritariamente, en organizaciones sin fines de lucro, vinculadas al ámbito educativo, cultural y de las ciencias sociales, con colecciones impresas y en tareas de servicio al público y organización de información. Se reflexiona sobre la necesidad de tomar medidas para incrementar la visibilidad de la carrera en el mercado laboral y sobre el rol de las prácticas en este propósito.
