English abstract

Review of the literature on union catalogs published during the last five years. Developments in the area of distributed search gave place to the creation of virtual union catalogs. Characteristics of both traditional and virtual union catalogs are analyzed, comparing their respective advantages and disadvantages.

Revisión de la literatura sobre catálogos colectivos publicada en los últimos cinco años. Los desarrollos en el área de búsqueda distribuida han dado lugar a la creación de catálogos colectivos virtuales. Se analizan las características del modelo tradicional y las del modelo virtual, comparando las ventajas y desventajas de cada uno.
