Suchmaschinen sind für viele Nutzer der Zugang zu Informationen im Netz und oft fehltihnen die Kenntnis anderer Suchwerkzeuge. In diesem Kapitel wird das ThemaInformationskompetenz anhand des Prozesses der Web-Suche (Auswahl des Suchwerkzeugs,Eingabe der Suchanfrage, Trefferselektion, Evaluierung des Treffers, Navigation/Sucheinnerhalb der Ergebnisquelle) sowie anhand des technischen Aufbaus von Suchmaschinendiskutiert.
