English abstract

The presentation describes different available methods to find, verify, and measure the positive influence of the libraries on individuals and society. In the past years, library evaluation focused mainly on quantity and/or quality of library services, while nowadays the debate deals with the need to find "evidences" of the value of libraries, since this value is no more granted. In the presentation the impact of libraries on individuals and society are described and analyzed.

Italian abstract

L’intervento descrive i diversi metodi esistenti per individuare, verificare e quantificare l’influenza positiva delle biblioteche sugli individui e sulla società. In passato la valutazione delle biblioteche si concentrava essenzialmente sulla misurazione della quantità e/o della qualità dei servizi bibliotecari, mentre oggi il dibattito è focalizzato sulla necessità di trovare prove (“evidenze”) del valore delle biblioteche per il singolo utente e per la società – dato che questo valore oggi non è più scontato. Vengono quindi mostrati i modi in cui si può manifestare l’impatto (sociale, educativo o economico) della biblioteca sugli individui e sulla società, e si descrivono i diversi approcci per individuare un’eventuale influenza positiva delle biblioteche.
