English abstract

Three years ago various initiatives were undertaken to improve information delivery to users in the Baltic Countries. One of these initiatives was the project for the creation of integrated library systems in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The main purpose of these systems was realization of shared cataloguing and bibliographic control performed in close partnership among all the three Baltic countries. In spite of the fact that the principal stipulations for projecting integrated library systems in the Baltic countries are generally the same, each of these systems should be considered individually, as most of the issues concerning the systems have been resolved differently, e.g. the design of the integrated system and its separate sub-systems as well as formats used for bibliographic and authority records, cataloguing rules, adequate software, etc.
