English abstract

Brazil leads the world in social networks. This essay focuses on the results of a two-year experience of Brazilian librarians using Twitter in their work field. Two types of presence on Twitter are identified. A new approach is proposed to answers the critical questions librarians are facing regarding service provision based on Twitter.

Portuguese abstract

O Brasil é líder mundial em redes sociais. Este ensaio versa sobre os resultados de uma experiência de dois anos de bibliotecários brasileiros usando o Twitter em seu campo de trabalho. Dois tipos de presença no Twitter são identificados. Uma nova abordagem é proposta com aspara responder as questões críticas que os bibliotecários estão enfrentando em relação a prestação de serviços baseada no Twitter.
