English abstract

Literature on digital libraries is increasing dramatically. The objective of the present work is to provide a global vision of the current status of digital libraries by analysing the main definitions currently used to describe them as well as by exploring the principal problems encountered.

Spanish abstract

La producción bibliográfica sobre las bibliotecas digitales se está incrementando de forma espectacular. El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar las principales definiciones existentes sobre este tipo de bibliotecas y presentar los problemas a los que se enfrentan, todo ello con el fin de proporcionar una visión general de su situación actual.
