English abstract

This communication deals with the infrause of Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) and its potential aplicability. Many studies have been realized beyond our days, but it must become so profitable as possible. Because of that the proposition recommends this classification system to be used in subject searching according two different perspectives: Information Retrieval System and Indexing. In this way, on the basis of two experiences in Catalan libraries with subject headings, these have been decisive to prospect a new practice of chain indexing with descriptors. This project is related to its web implementation and consist on hypertext technology as essential searching tool or Internet navigation.
