English abstract

On the occasion of a research and study visit to the College of Librarianship Wales (CLW), Aberystwyth, UK, the author reports on the experiences with CD-ROM from the point of view of users and librarians working at the CLW library. The article describes the introduction of CD-ROM in the college library, including software and hardware configurations, locally important CD-ROM data bases such as LISA and ERIC, and the practical use of CD-ROM in the library. The discussion includes comparisons with other libraries as well as the instruction of readers in database usage, user access, data security, downloading of data and the advantages of the forthcoming networking of CD-ROMs.

Anlässlich eines Forschungs- und Studienaufenthalts am College of Librarianship Wales (CLW), Aberystwyth, UK, berichtet der Autor über die dortigen Erfahrungen mit CD-ROM aus der Sicht der Benutzer und der Bibliothekare. Die Einführung der CD-ROM in der Hochschulbibliothek einschliesslich der Software- und Hardware-Konfigurationen wird dargestellt; ebenso die in dieser Bibliothek wichtigen CD-ROM-Datenbanken LISA und ERIC sowie die Praxis der CD-ROM-Benutzung. Der Beitrag zieht auch Vergleiche mit anderen Bibliotheken und diskutiert Aspekte der Benutzerschulung, des Benutzerzugriffs inklusive Downloading und Datensicherheit, und verweist in diesem Zusammenhang auf die Vorteile der kommenden CD-ROM-Netzwerklösungen.
