English abstract

The paper reports on an exploratory survey of information professionals in London and Dublin, concerning multimedia and optical storage media. The results are presented under the headings "subjective aspects" (knowledge, experience), "market-related aspects" and "information community" (assessing the knowledge and attitudes of producers, intermediaries and users). It seems that the level of knowledge and awareness is rather low, that a thorough overview of current developments and projects is lacking, and that not enough attention is being paid to market development. Also, the market potential for LIS and museum-related applications is considered to be rather limited. However, these results should be verified by a broader investigation.
