English abstract

To get accurate estimates of the academic quality of the journals it is necessary a clear approach on the basis of a well recognized method. The dimensionality of the data from the Spanish journal «Revista Española de Documentación Científica» has been made using its bibliographic references printed at the end of the research articles. The information space defines an internal communication model able to experiment with the history of the journal. The second step of this approach would be to design the representation of the space occupied by the research articles of the journal inside different international databases. The study has tried to create a grid of points of absence/presence that give an idea of how the density of the contents are close to each database. Finally, according to the frequency of coauthorship, an estimate reflecting the existence of invisible colleges has been produced.
