English abstract

The Unisa Library is the custodian of a valuable Information Resources asset base. In keeping with good “business” practice, ongoing maintenance of the quality of data to ensure that it is accurate, error free, timely, complete and consistent is required. The Library extracts patron data through an interface from HR Oracle system and Student system into the Oasis library system. This process is done automatically on a daily basis using Millennium Scheduler software. Inconsistencies in reports related to Library clients information with particular reference to staff members and students information extracted from the HR Oracle system and student system respectively have resulted in a lack of faith in the data integrity and its reliability. This has huge impacts in the sense that Library clients may not even have access to the Library and information resources on Oasis Library catalogue. It is important that the quality of data is always monitored. The responsibility to uphold a high quality data standard lies with each and every staff member. The paper will highlight the efforts that the Unisa Library is making to ensure that their data is of good quality. It will further touch on what the Library envisage to achieve in future.
