English abstract

Due to impact of ICT, digital library systems are becoming popular all over the world to collect, store and communicate information to users. Digital technologies have revolutionized the information management activities in the academic libraries during the past few years. In the present age of information revolution and ever increasing demand for exact and consolidated information, new techniques and technologies are replacing the functions methods followed by traditional libraries. This paper discusses the various aspects of the conversion of in-house library material into electronic format, for creation of digital library. The paper also correlates the objectives of digitization with the mission of academic libraries.
