English abstract

Reviewing, monitoring and verifying access to the Millennium functions should be a continuous exercise or a process that organizations engages themselves in. Reviewing access to Millennium functions serves to verify and validate that user’s access to the functions is appropriately granted according to their roles, responsibilities and processes. The monitoring process ensures that access is granted to the correct user to enable them to perform their jobs in support of the business. The absence of continuous monitoring may result in abuse of the functions. The power that comes with uncontrolled access to millennium functions may have dire consequences to an organization. This paper will highlight amongst others, the reasons for conducting an investigation into the access rights to millennium functions, the successes and failures of the project and the risks involved if monitoring is not conducted on a regular basis.
