English abstract

This paper aims to address the key elements that make the library an institution contributing to the cultural and social equilibrium, and requiring a better understanding and harmonization of phenomena such as globalization, multiculturalism, information society and knowledge society, so that they can be reconsidered to allow a gradual increase in the number of persons acquiring habits that pose a continuous cultural growth. It considers, first, what is meant by social and cultural balance and what are its main features; second, it examines how the library will contribute to human development with the correct appropriation of the dynamics inherent to globalization, multiculturalism, information society and knowledge society, and finally it defines new paths which from philosophical realism allow to foster formative activities generating social and cultural cohesion processes within the framework of a genuine pluralism.

Spanish abstract

El presente trabajo pretende abordar los elementos fundamentales que hacen de la biblioteca una institución que contribuye al equilibrio cultural y social, pero que requiere una mayor comprensión y armonización de fenómenos como la globalización, el multiculturalismo, la sociedad de la información y la sociedad del conocimiento, de tal modo que puedan ser repensadas para hacer posible que vaya en aumento el número de personas que adquieren hábitos que representen un crecimiento cultural continuo. Para ello, considera, en primer término, qué se entiende por equilibrio cultural y social y cuáles son sus principales características; en segundo lugar, analiza la forma en que la Biblioteca ha de contribuir al desarrollo humano mediante la correcta apropiación de los dinamismos inherentes a la globalización, el multiculturalismo, la sociedad de la información y la sociedad del conocimiento, y, finalmente, define nuevos derroteros que, desde el realismo filosófico, impulsen acciones formativas que redunden en procesos de cohesión social y cultural enmarcados dentro de un verdadero pluralismo.
