English abstract

A vital element to develop the information society is the interchange and opportune, effective and automatic cooperation of data, information, documents and digital objects among information systems. Currently there are a huge amount of regulations and national and international standards to develop the processes previously mentioned (NISO, ANSI, ISO). There are also new proposals and projects mainly developed by federations and international networks of Library Studies (IFLA, ALA, OCLC, LOC, etc.), which want to reach this interchange and cooperation known as inter operability. This article intends to present definitions, proposals and methodologies of interoperability to integrate contents in diverse existing information systems and to analyze the role of libraries, which have bben considered the refuge of universal academic knowledge.

Un elemento vital para el desarrollo de la sociedadde la información, es el intercambio y cooperaciónoportuna, efectiva y automática de datos, información,documentos y objetos digitales entre los sistemasde información. Actualmente existen multitudde normas y estándares nacionales e internacionalespara el desarrollo de los procesos antes mencionados(NISO, ANSI, ISO); también se han creado nuevaspropuestas y proyectos desarrollados principalmentepor las federaciones y redes internacionales de Bibliotecología(IFLA, ALA, OCLC, LOC, etc.), los cualesbuscan llegar a este intercambio y cooperaciónconocido como interoperabilidad. En este artículose busca presentar definiciones, propuestas y metodologíasde interoperabilidad que buscan integrarlos contenidos presentes en los diversos sistemas deinformación documental existentes y analizar el rolque juegan las bibliotecas, las cuales son los alberguesdel conocimiento académico universal.
