English abstract
Libraries and the activity of librarians show ethical implications in all their functional areas. This will be demonstrated by a couple of practical examples. Included are ethical conflicts and dilemmas with regard to collection building, Internet access, and indexing as well as privacy and equal treatment or inclusion and integration of minorities. It will be demonstrated how important ethical reflections guided by standards of professional ethics are and how they facilitate to find appropriate problem solving.
German abstract
Bibliothekarisches Handeln hat in allen Funktionsbereichen ethische Implikationen. Dies wird an einer Reihe von Beispielen aus der bibliothekarischen Praxis belegt. Ethische Konflikte und Dilemmata im Hinblick auf den Bestandsaufbau, die Internetnutzung und die Erschliessung werden ebenso berücksichtigt wie solche aus den Handlungsfeldern Datenschutz und Gleichbehandlung in der Benutzung oder Massnahmen zur Inklusion und Integration ethnischer Minoritäten. Verwiesen wird in diesem Zusammenhang darauf, wie wichtig bei der Problemlösung ethische Reflexion ist, die sich an berufsethischen Standards orientiert.
