English abstract

This is a study of the behavior, preferences and level of satisfaction of the academic communities of the Universities of Coimbra, Porto and Leon in relation to the use of electronic journals.With this aim, data and opinions from faculty undertaking research in differents fields of knowledge were gathered during surveys carried out in 2012. Frequent, intense use was noted, this being fundamentally directed towards research tasks. The average number of articles consulted per year was considerable, with clear differences being visible between the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences and Life and Health Sciences. The number of journal titles consulted regularly by faculty was found to be an average of almost ten, results that exceed the threshold found in other works

Spanish abstract

Estudio del comportamiento, preferencias y nivel de satisfacción de las comunidades académicas de las Universidades de Coimbra, Porto y León con respecto al uso de las revistas electrónicas. Con la finalidad indicada, se analizan los datos y opiniones de los investigadores de diferentes áreas de conocimiento, recogidas en encuestas realizadas en 2012. Se constata una frecuencia de uso intensa orientada, fundamentalmente, hacia las tareas investigadoras. La media de artículos anuales consultados es considerable, manifestándose diferencias claras entre las áreas de humanidades, ciencias sociales y ciencias de la naturaleza y la salud. El número de títulos de revistas consultados de modo regular por los investigadores se sitúa en una media cercana a 10, resultado que supera el umbral hallado en otros trabajos
