English abstract

The information revolution and ever-rising cost of journals have dramatically increased libraries reliance on consortia. One of the main roles these consortia have played is to make deals for databases, journals and other information at better prices. The present paper gives a short overview of Bulgarian experience of libraries cooperation in the frame of eIFL project (Electronic Information for Libraries). The eIFL.net foundation role is considered for libraries consortia establishment in transition and developing countries. The Bulgarian Information Consortium activities are described in the light of experience of advanced countries.
