English abstract

The objective of this work is to create awareness about the importance of modernizing libraries and train staff in charge of them technologically. This because the library is synonymous of progress for any people in the world. The library is analyzed as an institution that must develop technology skills, abilities and competencies of information on their users. Reality tells us that there is much work to be done in the technological part of many libraries, mainly due to its lag in individual knowledge and training of each librarian. It is necessary to train professionals through courses, reading journals, looking for information on the Internet, and sharing information with colleagues, then go and continue towards organizing communities of our country. As immediate conclusions we found imperative that librarians have high computer skills, a parallel career or opt for extra courses, extension, summer or otherwise, in accordance with the theme and to help with the task at hand versus users , which are becoming more aware of technology. Moreover, the current library should have technological resources as a primary tool that is necessary to maximize. The librarian should also be prepared to meet this challenge with a trained staff, stimulated by new things and targeted.

Spanish abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es crear conciencia sobre la importancia de modernizar las bibliotecas y capacitar al personal a cargo de ellas tecnológicamente. Lo anterior por cuanto la biblioteca es sinónimo de progreso para cualquier pueblo del mundo. Se analiza la biblioteca como una institución que con tecnología debe desarrollar habilidades, destrezas y competencias de información en sus usuarios. La realidad nos dice que hay mucho trabajo por hacer en la parte tecnológica de muchas bibliotecas, debido sobre todo a su rezago en el conocimiento individual o para capacitar cada bibliotecario. Es necesario capacitarse por medio de cursos profesionales, leyendo revistas cientìficas, buscando información en Internet, e intercambiando información con colegas, para luego ir organizándose y continuar hacia las comunidades de nuestro país. Como conclusiones inmediatas encontramos imperativo que el bibliotecario tenga altos conocimientos de informática, una carrera paralela u optar por cursos extras, de extensión, de verano o de cualquier tipo, acordes con el tema y que le ayuden con la tarea por realizar frente a los usuarios, los cuales cada vez tienen más conocimiento de tecnología. Asimismo, la biblioteca actual debe contar con recursos tecnológicos de punta como una herramienta primordial que es necesario aprovechar al máximo. El bibliotecólogo también debe estar preparado para afrontar este reto con un personal capacitado, estimulado por las cosas nuevas y con objetivos claros.
