English abstract

During 2013, the Library of the National Congress of Chile has been working with the new treatment standards for personal authorities, applying Resource Description and Access (RDA) and Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD) to 164 registries of senators and representatives that are also authors. As a result of the incorporation of the new cataloguing regulations and functional requirements, the registries of authority have been enriched in terms of amount of information able to be added in new MARC fields. However, the recovery and visualization of such information is complex and must be accessible for all citizens. It is with this purpose that an ontological work has been modeled and developed. Its domain is of 15 registries out of the 164 mentioned above, and it contains the information found in the bibliographic system, so as to be able to offer users a better searching experience, because a tool such as ontology improves precision in recovering information, increases the amount of information that can be visualized and recovered, provides attractive visualizations for users and, most importantly, it enables the generation of relations between registries, which enriches the search experience of the user.

Durante el año 2013 la Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile ha estado trabajando con los nuevos estándares de tratamiento para autoridades personales, aplicando Resource Description and Access (RDA) y Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD), a 164 registros de senadores y diputados que además son autores. Como resultado de la incorporación de las nuevas reglas de catalogación y los requisitos funcionales, se han obtenido registros de autoridad enriquecidos en cuanto a la cantidad de información que es posible agregar en nuevos campos MARC. Sin embargo, la recuperación y visualización de dicha información es compleja y debe ser accesible para toda la ciudadanía. Con este fin se ha modelado y desarrollado una ontología cuyo dominio son 15 registros de los 164 mencionados y que contiene la información que se encuentra en el sistema bibliográfico para poder ofrecer a los usuarios una mejor experiencia de búsqueda, ya que una herramienta como la ontología aumenta la precisión en la recuperación de información, aumenta la cantidad de información que se puede visualizar y recuperar, permite mostrar visualizaciones atractivas para los usuarios y, lo más importante, permite generar relaciones entre los registros, lo cual enriquece la experiencia de búsqueda del usuario
