English abstract

Using the 9 areas identified by the ISBD as a guide, the paper proposes a descriptive comparison between the choices carried out by the authors of RDA and REICAT. Two different ways of understanding the basic entities of the bibliographic description are shaped through a detailed analysis of individual choices, and accordingly to this, two different perspectives for the future organization of resources. REICAT are even linked to the organization "on board", to punctuation and to the concept of the catalog, while the RDA is outlined as a new structure, designed for full flow of data through a semantic platform.

Italian abstract

Il saggio propone, usando le 9 aree individuate da ISBD come guida, un confronto tra le scelte descrittive portate avanti dagli estensori di RDA e di REICAT. Attraverso un’analisi dettagliata delle singole scelte vengono a delinearsi due differenti modi di intendere le entità basilari della descrizione catalografica e di conseguenza due diverse prospettive per la futura organizzazione delle risorse. Le REICAT appaiono ancora legate all’organizzazione “a scheda”, alla punteggiatura uniforme e al concetto di catalogo, mentre con RDA si delinea una struttura nuova, progettata per la piena circolazione dei dati attraverso una piattaforma semantica.
