English abstract

The Public Library "Vladislav Petković Dis" of Čačak implemented a program called "The Book as a Remedy" in the County Jail in Čačak in 2002 and 2003. This project resulted from the cooperation lasting for years between the County Jail and the Library through lending of books free of charge to imprisoned persons. The article describes experience of re-socialization of imprisoned persons through cultural activities run by the Library inside the County Jail, with the cooperation of artists, writers, lecturers, musicians, etc.

Пројектом „Књига као лек” библиотека је настојала да изрази заинтересованост локалне заједнице за лица која су дошла у сукоб са законом. Кроз њихову ресоцијализацију и образовање брисане су границе између света изван и унутар затвора. Жељени ефекат пројекта је свакако да ова лица никада ви{е не до|у у сукоб са законом и да постану корисни чланови заједнице. Пионирски посао библиотеке уклонио је многе предрасуде о људима који су привремено лишени слободе и показао да је повратак могућ.
