English abstract

"Ooh!" and "Aargh!" in information searching: emotion research and measurement in information science (translation of the title). In the last two decades the importance of emotions has been recognized by information and library sciences. Information behaviour is not anymore defined only by cognitive or sensomotoric aspects, but is also studied regarding its affective component. The contribution provides a brief overview of emotions and their measurement in information and library science. In the second part of the article, a closer look on physiological sensors and their use as measurement instruments for emotions is taken. Finally, a qualitative research design using skin conductance sensors is presented as an example.

German abstract

Die Bedeutung von Emotionen wurde in den vergangenen zwei Dekaden auch in der Informations- und Bibliothekswissenschaft erkannt. Beim Suchverhalten wird nicht mehr nur die kognitive oder sensomotorische Ebene betrachtet, sondern auch dessen affektive Komponente untersucht. Dieser Artikel gibt einen Überblick über das Thema Emotionen und deren Messung in der informationswissenschaftlichen Forschung. Der Fokus richtet sich anschließend auf physiologische Sensoren als Messinstrumente und beleuchtet deren Verwendung. Exemplarisch wird zum Abschluss ein qualitatives Untersuchungsdesign vorgestellt, in dem Hautleitfähigkeitssensoren eingesetzt werden.
