English abstract

The bibliographic framework: orientation and positioning of bibliographic services in the information age (translation of the title). The dynamic change in the evolution of technology has a deep impact on the human society and on evolving business processes. Today’s IT solutions provide individualization in services to a remarkable extent with a very low cost ratio. Business companies and service providers especially aim at cost effectiveness and targeted solutions for product placement. The expenses on metadata production in library institutions are the objectives of this discussion and draw the attention to one of the central competences of scientific libraries. The development of RDA implementation activities and standardization are summarized by means of significant reports from the expert groups on that subject in order to carve out the chances and challenges of new library standards development. This report represents the ambitious purpose to strengthen the libraries position on the information market and encourages them to develop innovative bibliographical services.

German abstract

Die technologische Entwicklung der Gegenwart hat in rasantem Tempo zu einer Veränderung in der Gesellschaft und in den marktwirtschaftlichen Prozessen geführt. Die verfügbaren IT-Lösungen bewirken heute einen hohen Grad an Individualisierung in den Servicebereichen bei gleichzeitig niedrigen Kosten in den Aufwendungen. Kosteneffizienz und gezielte Produktlösungen sind zum Hauptinteresse der Unternehmen und Dienstleister erklärt worden. Die Untersuchung der Aufwendungen im Zusammenhang mit der Erstellung von bibliografischen Metadaten lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf diese zentrale Kernkompetenz von wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken. An Hand von Berichten der letzten Jahre wird die Entwicklung der Implementierung der RDA im Überblick nachvollzogen, um die Chancen und Herausforderungen herauszuarbeiten, die sich mit der Einführung von neuen bibliografischen Standards ergeben. Bibliothekseinrichtungen sollen in ihrer strategischen Positionierung am Informationsmarkt gestärkt und zur Entwicklung von innovativen Services angeregt werden.
