English abstract

In this Chapter, the Serials Crisis, author discusses the cost of peer reviewed publications and the problems faced by researchers in developing countries. The focus of this Chapter is on highlighting the problems and discusses possible solutions including the emergence of open access as one of the solutions. Open access journal publishing helps in mitigating some of the problems associated with serials crisis. This chapter discusses in details aspects such as Dysfunctioning of the Scholarly Communications; Serials Crisis Phenomena; Pricing and Economics of Journal Publishing; Cost Effectiveness of Journals; Problems with Predatory Open Access Journals; Accessibility, Delay and Other Issues of Journals.
