English abstract
The paper discusses the importance of Vocabulary Control in Subject cataloguing. It gives a brief history of the Sears list from 1923 to 2007, highlights the major changes in all its19 editions and makes a critical study of the 19th (2007) edition of the Sears List. It warns that it is not very suitable for Pakistani and other Asians’ subjects and suggests some measures for adapting it to Pakistani and Indian subjects.
