English abstract

Currently, information age encourages every organization to implement technology for its own convenience. Library as one of the professional institutions, develop automation systems as one application of the technology. The using of Free Open Source Software (FOSS) is growing in IT world because it has some advantages. Many organizations including the libraries choose to use FOSS. Senayan Library Management System or SLiMS is a web-based FOSS that can be used to build the library automation system. SLiMS has many advantages for the library automation systems. SLiMS is widely used in various types of libraries both in Indonesia and abroad. It has a great power in the SLiMS community that formed an important role in almost every city in Indonesia.

Era informasi saat ini mendorong setiap organisasi untuk mengimplementasikan teknologi untuk berbagai kemudahan. Perpustakaan sebagai salah satu institusi profesional mengembangkan sistem otomasi sebagai salah satu penerapan teknologi tersebut. Free Open Source Software (FOSS) semakin semarak dan berkembang di dunia IT dikarenakan beberapa keuntungan yang dimilikinya, sehingga banyak organisasi termasuk perpustakaan memilih menggunakan FOSS tersebut. Senayan Library Management System atau SLiMS merupakan salah satu FOSS berbasis web yang dapat digunakan untuk membangun sistem otomasi perpustakaan. SLiMS memiliki banyak kelebihan dibandingkan sistem otomasi perpustakaan lainnya. SLiMS banyak digunakan di berbagai jenis perpustakaan baik di Indonesia maupun di luar negeri. SLiMS memiliki kekuatan besar pada peran penting komunitas yang terbentuk di hampir setiap kota di Indonesia.
