English abstract

Review of the book by Maria Luísa Cabral about the history of the of Royal Library, the predecessor to the National Library of Portugal. This book discusses the political, institutional and intellectual context for the creation of the Library, focusing on the intellectual innovations provided, while debating and questioning the roles attributed to several lay and religious personalities up until her present research.

Revisão da monografia de Maria Luísa Cabral sobre a Real Livraria, antecessora da atual Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal. A obra discute o contexto político, institucional e intelectual da criação "Livraria", focando as inovações intelectuais proporcionadas, debatendo ainda e questionando os papéis atribuídos a várias personalidades laicas e religiosas até esta sua investigação presente.
