English abstract

In this paper some changes that have been occurring in both the university and its libraries since the eighties of XX century are analyzed, from the revision of a Budd’s book: Budd, J.M. (2012). The changing academic library: Operations, culture, environments. 2nd. ed. Chicago: Association of College and Research Libraries. It is stated that mutations have been coming about due mainly to neoliberal politics and global marketization of education systems and knowledge. The changes have to do with practices and hegemonic discourses as Knowledge Based Economy, Society of Information and the ideology of management; finally, it is suggested that dialectic and social antagonisms in university and its libraries draw a not closed reality yet.

El presente texto recoge algunas reflexiones sobre las alteraciones experimentadas por la biblioteca universitaria del capitalismo académico a partir de la lectura de la obra: Budd, J.M. (2012). The changing academic library: Operations, culture, environments. 2nd. ed. Chicago: Association of College and Research Libraries. En el artículo se mantiene que, desde el último cuarto de la centuria pasada, las dinámicas que se vienen produciendo tanto en la universidad como en sus bibliotecas se encuentran altamente condicionadas, entre otros factores, por las políticas neoliberales, así como por procesos de mercantilización de la educación y el conocimiento a escala global. Estos cambios tienen que ver con prácticas y discursos; entre éstos cabe destacar los relativos a “las economías basadas en el conocimiento”, la ideología de management o “la sociedad de la información”. Se alude también a diferentes narrativas en litigio, trasunto de intereses sociales contrapuestos, que permiten hablar de una realidad académica y bibliotecaria aún no clausurada.

French abstract

Ce travail constitue un recueil de réflexions sur les altérations subies par les bibliothèques universitaires du capitalisme académique suscitées à partir de la lecture de l’ouvrage:Budd, J.M. (2012). Thechangingacademiclibrary: Operations, culture, environments. 2nd. ed. Chicago: Association of College and Research Libraries. Dans cet article, nous considérons que, depuis le dernier quart du XXe siècle, les dynamiques qui se produisent à l’Université et dans ses bibliothèques sont profondément influencées par les politiques néolibérales, dont notamment les processus de merchandisation de l’éducation et de la connaissance à échelle globale, parmi d’autres facteurs. Ces changements sont liés à pratiques et à discours, dont notamment ceux relatifs « aux économies basées sur la connaissance », le management, ou « la société de l’information ». Nous évoquons aussi différents discours en litige, résultat d’intérêts sociaux opposés, qui permettent de parler d’une réalité académique et bibliothécaire pas encore close.
