English abstract

Content management has become a scientific and practical discipline during the 2000s. This paper reviews its development and status between 2005 and 2015, reviewing the literature on the subject of study and identifying the main trends. A specific revision in the content management literature on libraries and archives is made. The major findings are: (a) It is not possible to talk about concept, theory or standardized methods or techniques for ECM, and it does not provide a comprehensive model for information management in organizations yet; and (b) libraries and archives have not made substantial contributions to the theory and methods of content management. Finally, the author proposes a classification of content management tools consistent with the objectives and processes to which the tools are used.
