English abstract

The international articulations in favor of open access (OA) emphasize the institutional repositories (IRs) as an efficient strategy for the institutional scholarly information management. However, despite the wide adhesion of the strategy, the development of IRs have followed divergent goals and practices. Bearing in mind the conceptual controversy, the study investigated the elements that are necessary to conceptualize and analyze the IRs. For this, we conducted a Systematic Literature Review on the most cited papers about the subject in the databases Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar. As a result of analysis, was proposed a definition for the concept of IRs in the context of OA and two analysis tools. The first is a set of essential features for the categorization of an information system as IRs. The second is the systematization of eight dimensions of analysis. The three contributions compose the model to evaluation of IRs.

Portuguese abstract

As articulações internacionais em prol do acesso aberto (AA) destacam os repositórios institucionais (RIs) como uma estratégia eficiente para a gestão da informação científica das instituições. No entanto, apesar da ampla adesão à estratégia, o desenvolvimento dos RIs tem seguido objetivos e práticas divergentes. Diante da controvérsia conceitual identificada, o estudo investigou elementos que permitem definir RIs. Para tanto, foi realizada uma Revisão Sistemática da Literatura nos artigos científicos mais citados sobre o tema e que estavam indexados nas bases de dados Web of Knowledge e Google Scholar. Como resultado da análise, foi proposta uma definição para o conceito de RIs no contexto do acesso aberto e dois instrumentos de avaliação. O primeiro é um conjunto de características essenciais para a categorização de um sistema de informação como um RI. O segundo é a sistematização de oito dimensões de análise. Por fim, propõe-se modelo para avaliação de RIs.
