English abstract
The knowledge accumulated through generations in a region is recorded in the language and scripts of the region. This heritage is unique wealth on which sustainable development of the region in social, economic and cultural spheres are based. So computational linguistics, which can achieve the conversion of such ancient records in regional scripts to digital media in a way in which computers can understand them and enable text retrieval from them, is very important. The paper traces out the projects in Kerala, which attempted to achieve this power for Malayalam language and script.

ഒരു ദേശത്തെ അറിവുകള് അവിടത്തെ ഭാഷയിലും ലിപിയിലുമാണു് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. ആ അറിവുകള് ആ ദേശത്തെ ജനതയുടെ നിലനില്പ്പിനും സാമൂഹ്യ, സാംസ്കാരിക, സാമ്പത്തിക വികസനത്തിനും വേണ്ട അമൂല്യമായ സമ്പത്താണു്. മറ്റൊരിടത്തു നിന്നോ മറ്റു ഭാഷകളില് നിന്നോ അതു പരിപോഷിപ്പിക്കാനാവശ്യമായ വിവരങ്ങള് ലഭിച്ചെന്നുവരാം. പ്രാദേശിക അറിവുകള് ശേഖരിക്കാനും തിരയാനും കണ്ടെടുക്കാനും സാദ്ധ്യമാകുംവിധം ഡിജിറ്റല് സംവിധാനങ്ങളിലേക്കു് പകര്ത്തി സംരക്ഷിച്ച് തദ്ദേശീയര്ക്ക് ഉപയോഗയോഗ്യമാക്കുന്നതില് ഭാഷാസാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയുടെ പങ്ക് അതിപ്രധാനമാണു്. പ്രദേശിക ഭാഷകളും ലിപികളും കമ്പ്യൂട്ടര് അധിഷ്ഠിത പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങള്ക്കുതകുംവിധം വികസിപ്പിക്കാനാവാത്തിടത്തോളം കാലം ഈ-ഗവേര്ണന്സും വിജ്ഞാനവിതരണസംവിധാനങ്ങളും ജനങ്ങള്ക്ക് അപ്രാപ്യമായി തുടരും. ഇന്ത്യയില് പ്രാദേശിക ലിപികളുടെ സാങ്കേതികതകള് വിജയകരമായി പരീക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടതും അവയുപയോഗിച്ച് വിവരവ്യവസ്ഥകള് ആദ്യമായി നിര്മ്മിച്ചതും മലയാളത്തിലാണു്. ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പ്രവര്ത്തനങ്ങളുടെയും പ്രധാന വ്യവസ്ഥകളുടെയും ചരിത്രത്തിലൂടെ കണ്ണോടിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമമാണു് ലേഖനം.
