English abstract

Research on the evaluation of information retrieval (IR) can be classified into two main streams: a) the traditional or algorithmic approach, whose main referents are the Cranfield project and, more recently, the Trec conference, and b) the cognitive model, which focuses on the cognitive structures of individual users. These tendencies, however, are complementary. Thus, both of them should be integrated in a new syncretistic, but not eclectic, theoretical model.
