English abstract

Library collections have been significantly enriched by electronic subscriptions. Library catalogs have consequently evolved from collection indexes to integrated search environments for printed and electronic resources. Characteristic examples are ebook records created by vendors, or added URLs for connecting records to the electronic or digital version of a printed resource. Greek academic libraries have started acquiring electronic resources since the 1990s. Users could have access to these resources using lists describing available at the library website or through a federated search engine. Nowadays, libraries still offer lists, even though the number of electronic subscriptions has increased and corresponding lists have thereby become big and complex to use. Searching in the contents of integrating resources is facilitated by web scale discovery services, such as Summon, EBSCO EDS. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Library & Information Centre has published in 2014 a new version of its website. The new website integrated the VUFind search mechanism and the Summon web-scale discovery service, thus enabling simultaneous searches in the Library Catalog and other AUTh Library services, as well as in AUTh and HEAL-Link electronic subscriptions’ contents. Monitoring the library website statistics has revealed ineffective searches with keywords referring to integrating resources’ titles, such as Web of Science, JSTOR, TLG, etc. AUTh Library users seem to use the Library Catalog as a main search mechanism for all library resources regardless of their format or mode of access. Within the scope of offering a Library Catalog that enables all user tasks, we have implemented an integrating resources cataloging policy. This paper presents relevant practices from other libraries, the policy implemented in AUTh Library, tools used for the creation of the MARC21 records describing the integrating resources (Ulrich’s Serial Analysis System and MARCEdit), and the prospect of future enhancements in the developed set of records.

Ο εμπλουτισμός των συλλογών των βιβλιοθηκών με ηλεκτρονικές πηγές μετεξέλιξε τους καταλόγους από απλά ευρετήρια συλλογών σε ολοκληρωμένα περιβάλλοντα αναζήτησης έντυπων και ψηφιακών πηγών. Χαρακτηριστικά παραδείγματα είναι οι εγγραφές ηλεκτρονικών βιβλίων που προστίθενται στον κατάλογο με την αγορά τους ή η προσθήκη διασυνδέσεων προς την ηλεκτρονική/ψηφιοποιημένη εκδοχή μιας πηγής. Οι ελληνικές ακαδημαϊκές βιβλιοθήκες από τη δεκαετία του 1990 έχουν εντάξει ηλεκτρονικές πηγές στις συλλογές τους. Ο εντοπισμός των πηγών αυτών γινόταν αρχικά μέσα από λίστες στους ιστοτόπους των βιβλιοθηκών, ενώ η αναζήτηση γινόταν μέσα από τα περιβάλλοντα των διαθετών και έπειτα μέσα από ενοποιημένες μηχανές αναζήτησης. Σήμερα ο εντοπισμός αυτών των πηγών εξακολουθεί να γίνεται με λίστες, οι οποίες με τον ολοένα αυξανόμενο αριθμό συνδρομών μπορούν να γίνουν δυσλειτουργικές. Η αναζήτηση στα περιεχόμενά τους πραγματοποιείται με υπηρεσίες αναζήτησης που βασίζονται σε τεχνολογίες ιστού (web-scale discovery services), όπως Summon, EBSCO EDS κ.ά. Η Βιβλιοθήκη του ΑΠΘ δημοσίευσε το 2014 τη νέα έκδοση του ιστοτόπου (lib.auth.gr) όπου ενσωμάτωσε τη μηχανή αναζήτησης VUFind και την υπηρεσία Summon για ταυτόχρονη αναζήτηση στον Κατάλογο, στο περιεχόμενο άλλων υπηρεσιών της και στις ηλεκτρονικές συνδρομές ΑΠΘ και Συνδέσμου Ελληνικών Ακαδημαϊκών Βιβλιοθηκών (ΣΕΑΒ). Στο πλαίσιο παρακολούθησης των στατιστικών χρήσης του ιστοτόπου εντοπίστηκαν αποτυχημένες αναζητήσεις με λέξεις-κλειδιά που αφορούσαν όχι σε περιεχόμενο, αλλά σε περιβάλλοντα αναζήτησης, όπως Web of Science, JSTOR, TLG, κ.ά. Οι χρήστες χρησιμοποιούν τον κατάλογο της βιβλιοθήκης ως κεντρικό μηχανισμό αναζήτησης πηγών ανεξάρτητα από το είδος της πηγής. Για την παροχή ενός καταλόγου που να υποστηρίζει όλες τις διαδικασίες αναζήτησης εφαρμόστηκε πολιτική καταλογογράφησης ενοποιημένων πόρων (integrating resources). Η εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζει πρακτικές άλλων βιβλιοθηκών, την πολιτική που επιλέχθηκε στο ΑΠΘ, τα εργαλεία Ulrich’s Serial Analysis System και MARCEdit που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν για τη δημιουργία των εγγραφών και τέλος την προοπτική αναθεώρησης και εμπλουτισμού των εγγραφών στο μέλλον.
