English abstract

Currently, libraries face many challenges, but also new opportunities. The recent panorama of books and information requires libraries to take new actions designed to give new answers adapted to the current citizens’ needs. This exploratory study presents a trend map for the librarian sector applicable to different scenarios regardless of the target (university, public or school), its dimension or the environment in which it works (digital or physical), depending on the needs of each community. The main contribution of this study is to confirm that libraries remain as a place with a great social importance and demonstrated that through open spaces and multidisciplinary activities there is a flexibility to adapt depending on the needs, tastes or interests of the citizens.

Spanish abstract

Actualmente las bibliotecas se enfrentan a muchos desafíos, pero también a nuevas oportunidades. El actual panorama del libro y de la información requiere de las bibliotecas nuevas acciones encaminadas a dar nuevas respuestas adaptadas a las actuales necesidades de los ciudadanos. El estudio de carácter exploratorio presenta un mapa de tendencias del trabajo realizado en bibliotecas y que se puede aplicar a diferentes escenarios independientemente de su tipo (universitaria, pública o escolar), su dimensión o el entorno en que trabaje (digital o física), dependiente de las necesidades de cada comunidad. La principal aportación de este estudio es la constatación de que las bibliotecas siguen siendo espacios con una gran importancia social y como sus espacios y sus actividades de carácter multidisciplinar muestran su flexibilidad para adaptarse a las nuevas necesidades, gustos o intereses cambiantes de los ciudadanos.
