English abstract

The advent of digital technology and communication networks has led to a clear improvement in the channels of access to information and the realization of new models of communication, both personal and scientific. One of the proposals that is having the greatest impact throughout this process are the initiatives of the movement for Open Access to scientific information, which has materialized in the creation of more than 5500 repositories and more than 9000 OA journals worldwide in recent years according to data provided by Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Nowadays, almost all universities and research centres have an institutional repository as a reflection and guarantor of their entity's academic memory. The importance of this phenomenon is determined not only by the involvement of information managers - libraries, documentation centres - but also because an initiative is being developed in which, for the first time in history, researchers, financial institutions and even states are participating in order to promote and favour a freer and more open scientific communication system.

La llegada de la tecnología digital y de las redes de comunicación ha propiciado una evidente mejorar los canales de acceso a la información y la concreción de nuevos modelos de comunicación tanto personal como científica. Una de las propuestas que más incidencia está teniendo en todo este proceso son las iniciativas del movimiento para el Acceso Abierto a la información científica, que se ha visto materializada en la creación de más de 5500 repositorios y más de 9000 revistas OA en todo el mundo durante los últimos años según los datos aportados por Registry of Open Access Repositories (ROAR) y Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). En la actualidad casi todas las universidades y centros de investigación disponen de un repositorio institucional como reflejo y garante de la memoria académica de su entidad. La importancia de este fenómeno viene determinada por la implicación no sólo de los gestores de la información –bibliotecas, centros de documentación-, sino también porque se está desarrollando una iniciativa en la que por primera vez en la historia son participes investigadores, entidades financieras, e incluso estados que promueven y favorecen un sistema de comunicación científica más libre y abierto.
