English abstract

A quiet revolution is underway, with the growing interest of librarians and educators about information literacy / competence in information. The concept, based on the current scenario, has been widely adopted and diffused in countries like the United States and Australia. Information Literacy appeared in literature in 1974 and basically can be defined as the area on the informational universe, incorporating skills, knowledge and values related to search, access, evaluation, organization and dissemination of information and knowledge. This study is from of a theoretical-documentary, in-depth study of the subject, present a historical retrospective, define the concept, highlighting different conceptions and emphases around information literacy. The interface with the education and the role of librarian as an education are also addressed. Information Literacy emerges as a new educational philosophy, the basis for knowledge management and lifelong learning

Uma revolução silenciosa está em andamento, com o crescente interesse por parte de bibliotecários e educadores em torno da information literacy ou competência em informação. O conceito, face ao cenário atual, tem sido amplamente adotado e difundido em países como os Estados Unidos e Austrália. Information Literacy surgiu na literatura em 1974 e basicamente pode ser definida como o domínio sobre o universo informacional, incorporando habilidades, conhecimentos e valores relacionados à busca, acesso, avaliação, organização e difusão da informação e do conhecimento. O objetivo deste trabalho é, a partir de uma perspectiva teórico-documental, aprofundar os conhecimentos acerca do tema, apresentar uma retrospectiva histórica, definir o conceito, evidenciar diferentes concepções/ênfases em torno da information literacy. A interface com a Educação e o papel do bibliotecário como agente educacional também são abordados. A information literacy surge como uma nova filosofia educacional, base para a gestão do conhecimento e o aprendizado ao longo da vida.
