English abstract

In recent years academic libraries’ end-users (undergraduate - graduate students and teachers) have an ever-growing volume of online resources and services at their disposal. The emerging need for the effective management of information overload has been made evident worldwide, Greece included. Therefore, academic libraries have engaged in organizing Information Literacy projects within the scope of developing their end users’ skills in searching, accessing, evaluating and ethically using a great number of available information resources. At very early stages of this endeavor academic libraries developed information systems (as services) for supporting their information literacy programmes. The majority of hellenic academic libraries have started offering information literacy services limited to specific periods of time or to specific skills (e.g. searching) and – with only one exception – have not undertaken the development of information systems supporting information literacy activities. We suggest that the development of the ILSEAB educational platform offers a partial solution to both the limited information literacy programmes available in Greece and the literal absence of relative information systems. The University of Thessaly Library and Information Centre undertook the development of a web service supporting end users in information literacy issues within the framework of the Digital Convergence Operational Programme NSRF (2007-2013) Project of the Hellenic Academic Libraries Link horizontal action. This service has been named ILSEAB and has been developed as a deliverable of the subproject titled “Value Added Services for Libraries and Information Services, other Institutions and End Users”. The ILSEAB service includes a portal, an information literacy online platform, informational and educational material, as well as Web 2.0 services. The information literacy online platform provides access to samples of subject information literacy programmes for four (4) general disciplines: Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering, Life Sciences, Economic Sciences. Each one of the subject samples is provided for two different types of end users: undergraduate and postgraduate students. This paper presents the development process of the ILSEAB service, the selected standards and tools, and the structure of an information literacy programme sample. With regards to the presentation of the sample, the selected strategy for its development, including information about its content design methodology are described in brief.

Τα τελευταία χρόνια ένα από τα βασικότερα χαρακτηριστικά των -μέσω του διαδικτύου- παρεχόμενων ηλεκτρονικών (online) πηγών και υπηρεσιών των Πανεπιστημιακών Βιβλιοθηκών είναι η πολύ μεγάλη αύξηση του όγκου και της διαθεσιμότητάς τους προς τους τελικούς χρήστες (προπτυχιακούς-μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές και διδάσκοντες). Έτσι προέκυψε, σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο αλλά και στην Ελλάδα, η ανάγκη για την αποτελεσματική διαχείριση της παραπάνω πληροφορίας, με αποτέλεσμα τη συστηματική ανάπτυξη, κυρίως από τις Πανεπιστημιακές Βιβλιοθήκες, δράσεων Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας (Information Literacy) που έχουν ως αντικείμενο την απόκτηση, από τους τελικούς χρήστες, δεξιοτήτων στην αναζήτηση, εντοπισμό, αξιολόγηση και αποτελεσματική χρήση μιας μεγάλης ποικιλίας διαθέσιμων πληροφοριακών πηγών. Σχετικά γρήγορα οι πανεπιστημιακές βιβλιοθήκες του εξωτερικού ανέπτυξαν και πληροφοριακά συστήματα (ως υπηρεσίες) για την υποστήριξη των δράσεων της Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας, ενώ οι βιβλιοθήκες των ελληνικών ΑΕΙ έχουν μεν αρχίσει τα τελευταία χρόνια να προσφέρουν περιορισμένες, χρονικά και σε περιεχόμενο, δραστηριότητες Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας, αλλά, με μία μόνο εξαίρεση, δεν έχουν αρχίσει να αναπτύσσουν πληροφοριακά συστήματα υποστήριξης τέτοιων δράσεων, κάτι που αντιμετωπίζεται με την υπηρεσία ILSEAB που παρουσιάζεται σ’ αυτήν την εργασία. Η Βιβλιοθήκη και Κέντρο Πληροφόρησης του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας ανέλαβε την ανάπτυξη μίας υπηρεσίας υποστήριξης τελικών χρηστών των Βιβλιοθηκών σε θέματα Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας, στο πλαίσιο της υλοποίησης του ενταγμένου -στο ΕΠ «Ψηφιακή Σύγκλιση»- Έργου ΕΣΠΑ (2007-2013) της Οριζόντιας Δράσης του Συνδέσμου Ελληνικών Ακαδημαϊκών Βιβλιοθηκών. Η υπηρεσία ονομάστηκε ILSEAB και αναπτύχθηκε ως παραδοτέο του Υπο-έργου «Υπηρεσίες Προστιθέμενης Αξίας για Βιβλιοθήκες και Υπηρεσίες Πληροφόρησης, Λοιπούς Φορείς και Τελικούς Χρήστες». Η υπηρεσία ILSEAB περιλαμβάνει διαδικτυακή πύλη, ηλεκτρονική πλατφόρμα Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας, αναρτημένο ενημερωτικό και εκπαιδευτικό υλικό και υπηρεσίες Web 2.0. Στην ηλεκτρονική πλατφόρμα Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας παρέχονται τέσσερα (4) θεματικά υποδείγματα προγραμμάτων Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας (Information Literacy Programmes) για τέσσερα (4) αντίστοιχα γενικά επιστημονικά πεδία: Κοινωνικές/Ανθρωπιστικές Επιστήμες, Θετικές Επιστήμες και Επιστήμες Μηχανικών, Επιστήμες Ζωής, Οικονομικές Επιστήμες. Και τα τέσσερα υποδείγματα προσφέρονται σε δύο διακριτές ομάδες χρηστών: προπτυχιακούς και μεταπτυχιακούς φοιτητές. Στην παρούσα εργασία παρουσιάζεται η διαδικασία ανάπτυξης της υπηρεσίας, τα πρότυπα και τα εργαλεία που χρησιμοποιήθηκαν, όπως και η δομή ενός υποδείγματος μαθήματος Πληροφοριακής Παιδείας. Όσον αφορά το υπόδειγμα, παρουσιάζεται με συνοπτικό τρόπο η στρατηγική που ακολουθήθηκε για τη δημιουργία του, καθώς και πληροφορίες για τη μεθοδολογία σχεδιασμού της δομής του περιεχομένου.
