English abstract
This article presents the development and characteristic features of mass open online courses – MOOC’s. Following a short review of the literature of the subject, the author focuses on the issues related to the courses within the context of their actual use by academic librarians and their expected applications in both the development of services offered by libraries, prospective co-operation with other units of universities and in-house professional self-development and training.

W artykule przedstawiono rozwój oraz cechy charakterystyczne masowych otwartych kursów online (MOOC). Na podstawie literatury przedmiotu zaprezentowano również tematykę kursów MOOC w kontekście wykorzystania ich przez bibliotekarzy akademickich, zarówno w zakresie rozwoju usług bibliotecznych i współpracy z innymi jednostkami uczelni, jak również w kontekście osobistego rozwoju zawodowego.
