English abstract

The library is a social institution responsible for the organization and dissemination of bibliographical and documentary cultural heritage, with the mission of serve the informational needs of the commu-nity. Thus, an exploratory study aimed to identify and discuss the presence of authors of Afro-Brazilian literature in the collections of the Stadual System Of Public Libraries Of Bahia. The authors' survey was based on the index of Afro-Brazilian authors listed in the literafro website – Afro-Brazilian Literature Portal. The Public Library of the State of Bahia was selected because of its importance, the first public library in the first planned city of the country, and because it is the Brazilian capital with the highest percentage of browns and blacks. In particular, the data showed that from the list of authors in general and of Bahian naturalness extracted from the portal of Afro-Brazilian literature, which sum 25 authors out of a total of 133 authors, a still very shy presence in the collections. It is believed that if these ab-sences and gaps are identified, institutions can seek remedial measures to complement their collec-tions so that they reflect the informational needs of their time. It is understood that the librarian, as a professional of culture and information, must be attentive to these discussions, and seek to strengthen them, for the development of access to literature of black authorship.

Portuguese abstract

A biblioteca é uma instituição social responsável pela organização e a disseminação do patrimônio cultural bibliográfico e documental, tendo como missão atender às necessidades informacionais da comunidade. Assim, por meio de uma pesquisa exploratória objetivou-se identificar e discutir a presença dos autores de literatura afro-brasileira nos acervos do Sistema Estadual de Bibliotecas Públicas da Bahia. O levantamento partiu do índice de autores afro-brasileiros arrolados no site do Literafro − Portal da Literatura Afro-brasileira. A Biblioteca Pública do Estado da Bahia foi selecionada devido a sua importância, primeira biblioteca pública na primeira cidade planejada do país, e por ser a capital brasileira que apresenta maior porcentagem de pardos e negros. Em especial, os dados demostraram a partir da lista de autores em geral e de naturalidade baiana, os quais somam 25 autores dentre o total de 133 autores, uma presença ainda muito tímida nos acervos. Acredita-se que identificadas essas ausências e lacunas as instituições possam buscar medidas para reparação a fim de complementar seus acervos, de modo que este reflita as necessidades informacionais de seu tempo. Compreende-se que o bibliotecário, como um profissional da cultura e da informação, deve estar atento a essas discussões, e busquem fortalecê-las, para o desenvolvimento do acesso à literatura de autoria negra.
