English abstract

This article explains the Virtual Reference Desk for mathematics realized by Antonella De Robbio, during her time of working at the library of CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics – Laboratoire européen pour la physique des particules) in Geneva (Switzerland). This web meta-resource is organized into three parts with two specific aims: 1. a work tool for librarians which are involved in mathematics libraries but also for users that need resources about particle physics; 2. web resources specialized in mathematics only, in particular for mathematicians of the university of Padua (Italy), where Antonella De Robbio worked in for about twenty years. These two aims are based on a point of view both mathematics and physics subjects as well as librarian skills. To sum up, this VRD collects training and professional materials but also new and current online resources available nowadays.

Questa presentazione descrive brevemente il Virtual Reference Desk per la matematica che ho messo a punto durante il mio periodo di lavoro presso la biblioteca del CERN [2] (European Laboratory for Particle Physics - Laboratoire européen pour la physique des particules) di Ginevra. La metarisorsa Web si compone di tre repertori ragionati e interconnessi con duplice valenza: 1. vuole essere uno strumento di lavoro per i bibliotecari che operano nelle biblioteche di matematica, ma soprattutto per i bibliotecari di fisica delle alte energie, che sempre più spesso devono rivolgersi al contesto matematico per soddisfare i bisogni di un'utenza che necessita di applicazioni e modelli matematici per le scienze fisiche e in particolare per la fisica delle particelle; 2. risorse online per la matematica è soprattutto un Virtual Reference Desk per la comunità dei matematici con la quale collaboro da vent'anni in contesto universitario a Padova. Il dualismo di questo strumento bibliografico riflette una metodologia di lavoro e di ricerca orientata al settore fisico-matematico, ma che si fonda sulle tradizioni della nostra professione di bibliotecari. Lo strumento bibliografico nasce dall'esigenza di avere a disposizione un Virtual Reference Desk scientifico costruito secondo le necessità di chi opera nelle biblioteche fisico-matematiche, mettendo assieme sia il materiale raccolto in anni di lavoro, sia quanto reperito in rete con l'ausilio delle nuove tecnologie.
