English abstract

Wikipedia provided facilities for the academic and research community to develop content collaboratively. Wikipedia and related projects can be used for educational activities to enhance the skill sets of the academic community. Wikipedia like public libraries open the doors to knowledge. Public Libraries can inspire and guide users to contribute content to the Wikipedia project. Libraries can coordinate Wikipedia activities for the user community.

വിജ്ഞാനകോശങ്ങൾ ഒരു പ്രധാന റഫറൻസ് സ്രോതസ്സായി ലോക വ്യാപകമായി പൊതുജനങ്ങളും, അക്കാദമിക സമൂഹവും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.വിക്കിമീഡിയ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ 2001ൽ വിക്കിപീഡിയ ഓൺലൈൻ വിജ്ഞാനകോശം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു.വിക്കിപീഡിയ വിജ്ഞാനകോശത്തിന്റെ ഉള്ളടക്കം സ്വതന്ത്രവും, സൗജന്യവുമാണ്.പരമ്പരാഗത വിജ്ഞാനകോശങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവർത്തന രീതികളും വിക്കിപീഡിയ പോലുള്ള ഓൺലൈൻ ബദലുകളുടെ വരവോടെ മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.പൊതു സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ പങ്കാളിത്തത്തെ പൂർണ്ണമായും ആശ്രയിച്ചു പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ബൃഹത്തായ സംരംഭം ആണ് വിക്കിപീഡിയ. പബ്ലിക് ലൈബ്രറികൾക്ക് വിക്കിപീഡിയ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിൽ ഏർപ്പെടാൻ ബഹുജന പങ്കാളിത്തത്തോടെ ചുരുങ്ങിയ ചിലവിൽ സാധിക്കും.
