English abstract

CHAPTER 2. ADM IN ACTION. RESEARCH IN CATALONIA (KARMA PEIRÓ) The objective of this research is to shake individual curiosity, to explain where the automated decision making(ADM) are already applied in Catalonia. To explain the complexity, we have compiled more than fifty examples in the social, labour, health, education, banking, communication or cybersecurity fields, among others. To elaborate on this research we have interviewed a number of experts –maximum references of academic research on artificial intelligence–, as well as entrepreneurs and professionals related to AI. All of them have contributed with knowledge and reflection on current advances and the risks of the AI. Because the current moment is to decide individually what to do if an automated decision algorithm affects us in a negative or discriminatory way. To know what organizations or laws protect us. To know the procedures to follow, it is necessary to review the criteria that have been used to design the algorithm, as well as to detect and mitigate the biases of the data that have caused an unfavourable deviation for a person or a group.

CAPÍTOL 2. ADA EN ACCIÓ. TREBALL DE RECERCA A CATALUNYA. (KARMA PEIRÓ) L’objectiu d’aquesta recerca és sacsejar la curiositat individual, explicar –d’una manera senzilla– per a què serveixen els algorismes de decisió automatitzada (ADA) que s’apliquen ja a Catalunya. Per explicar-ne la complexitat, hem recopilat més de cinquanta exemples en l’àmbit social, laboral, de la salut, de l’educació, la banca, la comunicació o la ciberseguretat, entre d’altres. Per elaborar aquest treball hem comptat amb la col·laboració desinteressada d’una trentena d’experts del nostre país –màxims referents de la investigació acadèmica en intel·ligència artificial–, i d’emprenedors i professionals relacionats amb la IA, que han aportat coneixement i reflexió sobre els avenços actuals i els riscos que cal tenir en compte. Es tracta de decidir a títol individual què fer si un algorisme de decisió automatitzada ens afecta de manera negativa o discriminatòria. De saber quins organismes o legislacions ens emparen. De conèixer els procediments que cal seguir per tal que es revisin els criteris que s’han fet servir per dissenyar l’algorisme, així com per detectar i mitigar els biaixos de les dades que han provocat una desviació desfavorable per a una persona o un col·lectiu.
