English abstract

For years, in SBN (Servizio bibliotecario nazionale) discussion at least at Index level has been limited to questions of author cataloguing, subject cataloguing being excluded from cooperative activity. The absence of semantic data from the Index and the lack of common directives within SBN did not, however, prevent a process of growing consistency from being realized, even in the area of subject indexing. Thus was born, in 1990, the "Working Group on Subject headings and classification", established by ICCU. In the Index Evolution program, new functionalities and new data relative to the area of subject cataloguing have also been envisaged: in the database an archive file for subjects and one for classes will be implemented, and they will sit side by side with the other two, those for titles and authors.

Italian abstract

Per anni il discorso nell'ambito del Servizio bibliotecario nazionale (SBN), almeno a livello di Indice, si è limitato ai problemi della catalogazione per autore, essendo la catalogazione semantica esclusa dalle attività della cooperazione. L’assenza di dati semantici nell’Indice e di direttive comuni in ambito SBN non impedì che si realizzasse comunque un processo di omogeneizzazione anche nel settore della indicizzazione per soggetto. Nacque così, nel 1990, il Gruppo di lavoro sui soggetti e le classi, istituito dall’ICCU. Nell’ambito del recente progetto Evoluzione Indice sono state previste anche nuove funzionalità e nuovi dati relativi all’area della catalogazione semantica: nella base dati verranno implementati un archivio dei soggetti e un archivio delle classi che andranno ad affiancare gli altri due archivi dei titoli e degli autori.
